Félix Cordero (Ponce, P.R., 1931)
Nació en Ponce, Puerto Rico, es el primogénito entre nueve hermanos. En 1949 recibió una beca para estudiar con el renombrado artista puertorriqueño Miguel Pou. En 1953 se mudó a los Estados Unidos para estudiar arte en la Escuela de Artes Visuales en Nueva York y la Academia Americana de Artes en Chicago, Illinois. A principio de los ’70 regresó a la Ciudad de Nueva York a estudiar en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte. Ha trabajado como dibujante, diseñador de juguetes, fotógrafo, realizador de películas y editor de fotos para la industria de la publicidad. Se desempeño como maestro de televisión en Nueva York. A principio de los ’90 estuvo viviendo y trabajando en Ecuador, donde también expuso su obra. Luego de varios años decidió regresar a su tierra natal. Ubicó su residencia en San Juan, donde de estableció en 1994 para continuar desarrollando su obra pictórica. En 1984 recibió el premio Artista del Año por el instituto de Puerto Rico en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Su biografía apareció en 1984 en el libro “Portraits of the Puerto Rican Experience”.
Félix Cordero (Ponce, P.R., 1931)
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he is the firstborn among nine siblings. In 1949 he received a scholarship to study with the renowned Puerto Rican artist Miguel Pou. In 1953 he moved to the United States to study art at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the American Academy of Arts in Chicago, Illinois. In the early 1970’s he returned to New York City to study at the Art Students League. He has worked as a cartoonist, toy designer, photographer, filmmaker and photo editor for the advertising industry. He worked as a television teacher in New York. In the early 90’s he lived and worked in Ecuador, where he also exhibited his work. After several years he decided to return to his homeland. He took up residence in San Juan, where he settled in 1994 to continue developing his pictorial work. In 1984 he received the Artist of the Year Award from the Institute of Puerto Rico in New York City. His biography appeared in 1984 in the book “Portraits of the Puerto Rican Experience”.
