Miguel Trelles (San Juan, PR, 1969)

Miguel Trelles is a representational painter and a printmaker who divides his time between New York City, New Haven, Connecticut and San Juan. Better known for his on-going Chino-Latino painting series, including the latest narrative series “Tramite: Hsiao” (Gabarron Foundation, NY/Spain ‘08), Trelles has also worked on other series such as “Rumberas in the Garden” (Shubert Theater, New Haven, ;04) and “Vikingo-Mulato” (CSV Cultural Center, New York, 02).

After obtaining a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art at Brown University, Miguel Trelles attended graduate courses in Chinese Art History at Yale University. He then took up lithography at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. Trelles holds an M.F.A.(1995) from Hunter College in New York.

Trelles’ paintings have traveled all over the U.S. and to Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Santo Domingo, Tegucigalpa, Havana, Buenos Aires, Paris and Valladolid. Trelles’ work is part of several permanent collections such as those in El Museo del Barrio and Deutsche Bank in New York and in the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña and El Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico as well as that of the Fundación Gabarrón in Spain.
