Víctor Torres (Coamo, P.R., 1925)
Dermatólogo y pintor. Desde temprana edad desarrolló una variedad de intereses en música, artes visuals y ciencias. En 1946 obtuvo un bachillerato en matemáticas y química en la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) y fue admitido en la escuela de medicina de la Universidad de Columbia. Sirvió en el ejercito por dos años como médico, luego regresó a Puerto Rico a terminar su residencia en dermatología; especialidad en la cual se desempeñó tanto en el sector privado como en la UPR. Durante toda su vida mantuvo su interés por la pintura y en 1998 obtuvo un bachillerato en pintura de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de San Juan y se convirtió en su pasatiempos principal en su retiro de la medicina. Aunque se dedicó a la pintura por disfrute personal y nunca ha aceptado remuneración por sus obras, ha aceptado comisiones de la Iglesia Católica para pintar el retrato official del santo Carlos “Charlie” Santiago. Sus dibujos y pinturas en óleo y acrílico incluyen escenas del campo puertorriqueño, retratos, autorretratos y reproducciones de obras de arte reconocidas.

Dermatologist and painter. From an early age he developed a variety of interests in music, visual arts and science. In 1946 he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) and was admitted to medical school at Columbia University. He served in the army for two years as a physician, then returned to Puerto Rico to finish his residency in dermatology; specialty in which he worked both in the private sector and at the UPR. Throughout his life he maintained his interest in painting and in 1998 he obtained a bachelor’s degree in painting from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de San Juan and it became his main hobby in his retirement from medicine. Although he dedicated himself to painting for personal enjoyment and has never accepted remuneration for his work, he accepted a commissions from the Catholic Church to paint the official portrait of saint Carlos “Charlie” Santiago. His drawings and paintings in oil and acrylic include scenes of the Puerto Rican countryside, portraits, self-portraits and reproductions of famous works of art.
