Elsa María Meléndez (Caguas, PR, 1974)

Artista gráfica, dibujante y pintora. Graduada en 1997 de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras, con un Bachillerato en Humanidades con concentración en Bellas Artes. Permanece en la Universidad tomando talleres de pintura, grabado, intaglio en plancha de cobre, taller experimental de papel y del libro artístico, con los maestros Rafael Rivera Rosa, Néstor Millán, Roberto Barrera y Martín García. Hizo estudios independientes en pintura mural con Brenda Alejandro. En el verano del 2005 tomó un taller de Diseño de Exposiciones en la Universidad del Turabo, en Gurabo, Puerto Rico. Un año más tarde viajó al Smithsonian Institute en Washington, D.C. a tomar el curso “Behind the Scenes at the Smithsonian”, Smithsonian Affiliations and the Smithsonian Center for Education Museum. Fue Coordinadora de Exposiciones del Museo de Arte de Caguas, donde actualmente es curadora. Desde el 2003 es parte del Comité Organizador de la Bienal de Escultura en Concreto del Municipio de Caguas. Ha impartido talleres de dibujo y grabado a niñas y adultos. En el 2006 obtuvo el Primer Premio en Grabado del Certamen de Artes Plásticas del Ateneo Puertorriqueño en San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Elsa María Meléndez, (Caguas, PR, 1974)

Graphic artist, draftswoman, and painter. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, in 1997, with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and a major in Fine Arts. She continued taking workshops at the University in painting, engraving, intaglio on copper sheets, and an experimental workshop on paper and the art book, with professors Rafael Rivera Rosa, Néstor Millán, Roberto Barrera, and Martín García. She pursued independent studies in mural painting with Brenda Alejandro. In the summer of 2005, she attended a workshop on Exhibition Design at Turabo University in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. The following year she visited the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and took the “Behind the Scenes at the Smithsonian” course at the Smithsonian Affiliations and the Smithsonian Center for Education Museum. She has been Exhibition Coordinator at the Caguas Art Museum, and is currently its Curator. Since 2003, she has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the Municipality of Caguas’ Biennial of Sculpture in Concrete. She has offered workshops in drawing and engraving to children and adults. In 2006, she received First Prize in Engraving in the Plastic Arts Competition held by the Ateneo Puertorriqueño in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
